CEAR Wins Green Design Award – Sacramento BERC

Last week, CEAR had the distinct honor of earning the Green Design Award at this years Sustainable Business Awards and Resource Expo. The Program is hosted by the Business Environmental Resource Center (BERC), a division of the Sacramento County-Office of Economic Development.

For 25 years, sustainability has been at the heart of CEAR’s mission. Our IT Asset Disposition prioritizes extending the life of devices and recovering reusable components to reduce the environmental impact of all electronics. What cannot be reused is recycled and our facility is TRUE Silver Zero Waste Certified as part of our efforts of zero landfill recycling. Our machine processing is designed to recover clean raw material to support the circular economy and efficiently operate using less energy. CEAR also procures 100% of our energy from renewable sources through SMUD‘s Greenergy Program.

We would like to thank the Sacramento County Department of Airports, the Sacramento County Environmental Management Division and all of our partners for this honor. We look forward to building a greener future together!

Understanding California’s SB 1215 & AB 2440: A Guide

Batteries are so ubiquitous in electronics, both rechargeable and replaceable, that keeping them out of the wrong waste streams is a great challenge. The consequences of not doing so include collection truck and facility fires, hazards to sanitation workers, and environmental damage. SB 1215 and AB 2440, passed in 2022 but soon taking effect, aim to update regulations to manage these risks and create product stewardship programs for batteries and battery-embedded devices.

Where Are Your Electronics Being Recycled?

Most of the garbage we generate daily is easy to let out of sight and out of mind with the knowledge that it’s being disposed of according to well-defined regulations by trusted authorities. E-Waste is different in critical ways:  Unlike most household or municipal waste, electronic devices often contain hazardous materials,

Secure & Sustainable Hard Drive Recycling – Why Magnet Recovery Matters

Hard disk drives (HDDs) present a dual challenge when they reach end-of-life, one that is often accomplished by a single process: shredding. Ideally, drives must both have the data securely destroyed and recyclers must recover the valuable material. Numerous techniques exist to destroy data, but shredding destroys data and starts
